CCHA Players of the Week: Jan. 23-24

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for January 23-24 and four student-athletes from three different programs have been recognized. Stiven Sardarian (Michigan Tech) earned his fourth Foward of the Week award this season, while converted forward Jackson Niedermayer (BGSU) claimed his first Defenseman of the Week honor. Aaron Trotter (St. Thomas) and Nathan Pilling (St. Thomas) were the Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

CCHA Forward of the Week: Stiven Sardarian, Sr., Michigan Tech (Saint Petersburg, Russia) 

 
Sardarian led CCHA skaters with five points last week, scoring two goals with three assists for then-No. 19 Michigan Tech in a weeked split with Northern Michigan. He was a -1 in the series with one power-play tally and three shots on goal. On Friday, he recorded two goals and two assists in an 8-2 Huskies victory, before adding one helper in a 3-2 loss on Saturday night. 


CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Jackson Niedermayer, Sr., Bowling Green (Newport Beach, Calif.) 
 
Niedermayer paced conference blueliners in points (3) and assists (3) last week, helping the Falcons to a road sweep of Bemidji State. He was +4 on the weekend with four shots on goal, while averaging 19:25 minutes per contest. On Friday, he notched four shots on goal in a 3-1 Bowling Green win. He then dished out a career-high three assists in a 5-1 victory on Saturday night.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Aaron Trotter, Sr., St. Thomas (Victoria, B.C.) 
 
Trotter went 2-0-0 with a 0.54 goals-against average and a .978 save percentage last week which were both second-best in the nation by two-start goaltenders. Recording one shutout, he stopped 44-of-45 shots across 111:27 minutes. Coming on in relief of starter Carsen Musser on Friday, he turned away 20-of-21 shots in a 7-4 Tommies win over Lake Superior State. He then stopped all 24 shots he faced in a 5-0 shutout victory on Saturday.
 
CCHA Rookie of the Week: Nathan Pilling, Fr., St. Thomas (Calgary, Alta.) 
 
Pilling led CCHA freshmen in points (5) and goals (3) last week, helping the Tommies to a road sweep of Lake Superior State. He was +4 in the series with 13 shots on goal, which were the second-most by a conference skater. On Friday, he matched a career-high with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in a come-from-behind 7-4 win, before dishing out a pair of assists in a 5-0 victory on Saturday.
