Three Are Student-Athlete of the Year Finalists

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced the finalists for 2025-26 CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the conference's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs) and Adam Flammang (Bemidji State), Alex Tracy (Minnesota State) and Lucas Wahlin (St. Thomas) have been recognized. The winner of the annual award will be announced on Tuesday, February 17.

Flammang, a senior forward and nominee for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, is actively engaged in the Bemidji community, volunteering his time with various nonprofit organizations such as United Way, Boys and Girls Club, and Bemidji Elementary Schools, serving as a positive role model for the Bemidji State hockey team and the institution. As a Finance major, he is also on track to complete his MBA while maintaining a 3.69 GPA. Twice earning CCHA All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete honors, Flammng is also a standout on the ice, serving as an assistant captain this season.

Second on the team in scoring with a career-high 28 points (8 goals, 20 assists) through 27 games, Flammang is a +2 with 80 shots on goal and 19 blocks defensively. He recorded a point in 15 of his first 18 games this season, including six multi-point performances. Highlights include being named CCHA Forward of the Week (Oct. 6) and recording a career-high four-point game at University of Alaska Anchorage (Oct. 3), where he also scored the game-winning goal. He is tied for third on the team with four power-play goals.

A senior goaltender and 2024-25 CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year, Tracy is a four-year member of the Minneso State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In this role he helped produce videos for mental health awareness and our Slam Don’t Drive Drunk campaign. This year, he assisted with the Make-A-Wish initiative by raising funds through events at specific football and hockey games. Tracy helps the SAAC with their All Sports Camps and Trick or Treat with the Mavericks each year.  As member of the men’s hockey team, he participates every year in our Kiwanis Holiday light event helping to set up displays, rake the town, Anthony Ford Pond Hockey tournament, the YMCA corn roast to raise funds for food pantries, helping at Futures School.

Holding a 3.82 GPA in Finance, Tracy has been named to the dean’s list every semester and earned Scholar Athlete from the CCHA every year he has been eligible. A three-time AHCH Krampade All-American scholar and named to CSC Academic All-District. He is a CSC First Team Academic All-American. In the 2025-2026 season, Tracy has won multiple CCHA Goaltender of the Week awards and one Goaltender of the Month Award (Nov.). He is a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award and the Mike Richter Award. In December, he represented the U.S. College Selects at the Spengler Cup tournament in Davos, Switzerland.

Wahlin, a senior forward and three-time captain for the Tommies, volunteers for a local hockey club in the Twin Cities, introducing kids to the sport during J-terms and summer. He also runs a separate series of shooting clinics for kids in the summer. Recently, he spoke at the Minnesota Wild Leadership Summit to young student-athletes about what it means to be a student-athlete and a leader. He also has organized his teammates to volunteer as readers at JFK Elementary, to help kids that have fallen behind. 

Beyond his excellent academic record (every semester he was on the Dean’s list), which includes a 3.85 GPA in Business Management, Wahlin is the all-time D1 program record holder at St. Thomas in goals, assists, and points. He was the first Tommie in program history to 100 points, and the the first to 50 goals. He currently leads the CCHA with 18 goals and is tied for fifth in the nation at 0.69 goals per game. He reached 30 points last weekend for the third time in his career, a program best. A two-time CCHA Forward of the Week this season along with Forward of the Month for January, he has two Forward of the Month honors and four Forward of the Week honors during his career. 

Previous CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year honorees include: Alex Tracy (Minnesota State in 2024-25), Blake Pietila (Michigan Tech in 2023-24), Brendan Furry (Minnesota State in 2022-23) and Ben Newhouse (Northern Michigan in 2021-2022).
